I'm so excited it's FINALLY May! I am counting down the days until my kiddos are out of school (29 days left to be exact!) I love how at the beginning of summer all of us Mom's are so excited to have all this time with our kids but come August and we are frazzled and ready for a break! I know our summers are busy as we spend our days hiking and playing in the pool and that makes it more challenging to work. Some nights I am just too tired! So I'm using these last weeks to get projects done, enjoy some downtime and plan for the summer. If you are looking for a fun (and simple) project to get some creativity in I think you'll love my Cinco de Mayo succulent planters! They are simple, cheery and great for a pop of color on your table or just about anywhere! I grabbed these three planters from Hobby Lobby, but you can get them from any store (be sure to watch for a sale! I got these at 50% off!)
Supplies:
- Planters (similar to above)
- Decoart Fluid Acrylics in Cobalt Teal Hue
- Decoart Fluid Acrylics in Hansa Yellow Light
- Decoart Fluid Acrylics in Pyrrole Red
- Decoart Americana in Snow White
- Paint brushes
- Clean water
Instructions:
These planters are porous and have a great texture. Because of this, I didn't want to use an opaque paint that would cover it up. Make sure your planters are dusted off and dry before you begin!
For each, mix 1 part decoart fluid acrylics with 3 parts water. Do a light color on each planter. Do not do a second coat until they have dried in order to ensure a more even coat. You can increase or decrease your water to paint ratio as you see fit.
For the white, I did want more opaque coverage so I used Decoart Americana in snow white. Add a stripe! Add two stripes! Add polka dots! Now you are ready to welcome summer with American's favorite food....TACOS!
